Do I need Air Freight?

As an exporter or importer deciding which shipping method to choose can be daunting or confusing sometimes so here is a list of advantages and disadvantages of air freight, types or air freight and when to use each.

Advantages

Speed

Air Travel is the fastest mode of transport; therefore it is suitable for transporting long distance goods, goods that need to be delivered on a tight deadline and perishable goods.

Availability

Speed is not the only convenience when it comes to air freight it is almost always available due to the massive amount of planes that fly worldwide, hence, if you miss your flight or book too late you will usually find another flight later the same day or the next day.

Safety

Since most cargo planes also carry passengers, a big deal of security measures are required and enforced to ensure the safety of the passengers and consequently your goods.

Locations

Air transport is regarded as the only means of transport in those areas which are not easily accessible to other modes of transport. It is therefore accessible to all areas regardless the obstruction of land.

Minimum Warehousing

Not different from many transport methods Air transport is unreliable as it depends of the weather forecast. Normally if the weather is not certain the flight may got delayed.

Types of Air Freight

Cargo Planes

These are planes that only carry cargo goods, you might need to use cargo planes to transport hazardous materials as the security and limitations on hazardous items are easier than on a passenger plane.

Commercial planes

These are normal passenger planes, and they usually reserve place for cargo goods

Charter plane service

This is a service offered by some airlines where you reserve an entire airplane. this is good if you are working with large size cargo or you need you cargo delivered on tight schedules.
